As the Coronavirus paralyses large cities and threatens to cripple the global economy, we in Guyana are distracted by Barratt Jagdeo’s maneuver to get into the Region 4 ballot boxes, with the hope of disqualifying APNU-AFC votes. It is a time for action, time to move pass Jagdeo’s antics.
The NBA has suspended its season. The United States has suspended travel from Europe. States in the US are declaring state of emergencies, and public gathering over a certain number are banned. In Italy, all shops, bars, and restaurants have been ordered closed. The WHO has declared the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) a global pandemic. This is serious business.
We need urgent action in Guyana. The president must be sworn in, Parliament must be reconvened, and money must be voted to get us prepared. We can wait no longer.
Bharrat Jagdeo talk of recounting votes is just bonkers. He wants to keep us paralysed for the next 3 months while the Coronavirus rips though and devastates our population. This is too high a price to pay to satisfy Jagdeo’s demands. Remember, Jagdeo had similar antics in 2015, but never filed an election petition.
The nation needs urgent action. The government must move to implement a policy of “social distancing.” All unnecessary gatherings must be suspended. Let’s postpone the family reunion. If you are sick, don’t visit your grandparents, don’t go to work, don’t go to the dance. Wait! Should we suspend all parties, fetes, concerts etc?
It is time for us to move pass this Jagdeo manufactured crisis. The lives of our citizens are at stake.
