Kit Nascimento is joking. He is pretending to advise PNCR Leader David Granger to abandon the interest of his constituents, and surrender to PPP hegemony. He is asking Mr Granger to fire Opposition Leader Joe Harmon, forget about the elections petition, and go bowl in hand to Irfaan Ali and the PPP.
Nascimento accuses Harmon of being too strident and confrontational. He wants a docile Opposition. Clearly his interest is not about the welfare of the Coalition’s constituents. He wants the PPP to have a clear field to run roughshod over the people of Guyana. He must be joking.
During the recount process the PPP and it’s acolytes rejected Keith Lowenfield’s position that evidence of electoral fraud should have a bearing on the declaration. They argued that the fraudulent numbers must be declared, and evidence of fraud must be presented in an election petition. However, since the declaration of the results and the swearing-in of Irfaan Ali, they have changed their tune.
The PPP argued to have the election petition thrown out. Nascimento is now asking David Granger to forget about the petition and go bowl in hand to Irfaan Ali. Their posture that the evidence of fraud is not significant is a thing of the past. They are now doing their best to prevent the evidence from being presented.
During the recount the PPP promised a Commission of Inquiry into the 2020 Elections. Now, instead of the COI they are talking about unilaterally changing election laws. Instead of allowing the issues to be fully ventilated in court, they are doing their best to prevent it. Now they are setting up their surrogates to pressure Joe Harmon for refusing to accept the fraudulent PPP victory.
Joe Harmon and the APNU-AFC Coalition need to turn up the pressure on the PPP over the fraudulent elections. They must demand a decision on the election petition based on merits. Legal technicalities and behind the scene corrupt deals to derail the wheels of justice must be rejected and confronted in the strongest possible terms.
A free pass to the PPP on this issue has serious implementations for the future of democracy in Guyana. Already they are signaling their intentions to tamper with the election laws. Their scheme is to legally sanction their rigging methodology. This must be resisted.
